How a challenge coin is made

Two faces, a design in relief, and a finish that reads under any light.

A challenge coin carries your design in raised or recessed relief on the front and the back, struck or cast in metal and finished in the plating and colour you specify. It is a small, permanent object organizations hand out to mark rank, service, membership or an event, made to sit in a pocket or a display case for years.

Die Struck Challenge Coins

Die Struck Challenge Coins

A metal blank is struck under high pressure between two hardened dies, pressing your design into the coin in a single strike. Choose die struck for crisp lettering and fine line work, finished in the plating and enamel colours you specify.

Die Cast Challenge Coins

Die Cast Challenge Coins

Molten metal is poured into a mould shaped to your design, which allows for deeper three dimensional relief, cutouts and multiple height levels in a single coin. Choose die cast when a design needs more sculptural depth than striking alone gives it.

Coin size

Diameter in inches or millimetres, and thickness if it matters for your program.

Quantity

How many coins you need for this run.

Number of colours

How many enamel colours the design carries, per face.

Backing or attachment

Standalone coin, a keyring, or another attachment, whatever your design calls for.

Artwork

Your logo or design file. Vector art gives the cleanest strike or cast.

In hands date

The date you need the coins in hand, for a ceremony, muster or event.
